Intel is a global leader in the processors market, which are used by almost every manufacturer in computers and laptops. But, the world has now moved on to smartphones and tablets, where Intel have not been able to compete against ARM processors. In a major push for Intel, Samsung is launching two tablets with Intel processors- Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 and Galaxy Tab 3 10.0. Let’s see what they offer-
Tab 3 8.0 features an 8 inch TFT screen with resolution of 800 x 1280 pixels, equating to 180 ppi pixel density. Samsung is claiming that this tablet can easily be held by one hand with its handy weight of 314 g. It’s powered by 1.5 GHz Intel Atom Z2560 dual-core processor given company by 1 GB RAM. It has in-built storage of 16/ 32 GB, which is expandable up to 64 GB via microSD card. In terms of camera, it has 5 MP camera at the back and 1.3 MP camera for video calling at front. The tablet is provided juice by non-removable Li-ion 4450 mAh battery.
GALAXY Tab 3 8-inchGalaxy Tab 3 10.0 has a 10 inch TFT screen sporting a resolution of 800 x 1280 pixels (~ 149 ppi). The tablet has a considerable weight of 510 g. It runs on a 1.6 GHz dual-core processor paired with 1 GB RAM. Similar to Tab 3 8.0, it has 16/ 32 GB internal storage expandable up to 64 GB through microSD card. It has only 3.2 MP rear camera and a front-facing camera of 1.3 MP providing video calling functionality. A non-removable Li-Po 6800 mAh battery powers this device.
Both of the tablets support usual connectivity features such as 2G/ 3G/ 4G, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, IR and GPS.(The cellular features are present only in one variant, Samsung also offers Wi-Fi only tablet). Both of them run on the latest version of Android 4.2.2 (JellyBean).
Samsung has customized the Android OS with its proprietary TouchWiz skin which shares lot of useful features from Samsung’s flagship smartphone- Galaxy S4. The tablets have S Travel, S Translator, Group Play, Story Album, etc.
Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 can be held by one hand and hence is optimal for reading e-books, watching videos, playing games and more. Samsung has added ‘reading mode’ technology which enhances the readability of the screen. Samsung has also added Sound Alive and Dolby Surround technologies for enhancing the audio and video experience of the tablet.
Galaxy Tab 3 10.0 is a powerful portable entertainment device which can play all kind of multimedia from music to video. Further, it has MHL (Mobile High-Definition Link) for connecting to the TV. The device also has ‘Smart Remote’ for using it as a second screen along with TV.
The devices will be available for purchase in summer (June) and price hasn’t been announced by Samsung. In terms of specification, the tablets seems really good and if priced well can turn out to be good bet for both Samsung and Intel.
